Covid-19: 55 New Confirmed Cases in Morocco, 225 in Total

Rabat - Fifty-five (55) new cases of infection with the new coronavirus (Covid-19) have been confirmed in Morocco in the last 24 hours, bringing to 225 the total number of cases of contamination, said Wednesday Hafid Zahri, communication adviser to the minister of Health.

The number of deaths due to the virus now stands at six and that of cured cases at seven, he said in a statement broadcast by MAP on its channel M24 and RIM RADIO.

In terms of geographical distribution, the total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom is broken down as follows: the Casablanca-Settat region, the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, the Fez-Meknes region, the Marrakech-Safi region, the Tangier-Tetouan-El Hoceima region, the Souss-Massa region, the Eastern region, the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region, the Draa Tafilalt region and the Guelmim-Oud Noun region.

The age group most exposed to the risk of Covid-19 contamination is that of over 51 years old at a rate of 32.6%, while the age group under 5 recorded a percentage of 1.1%. The age group between 5 and 15 years old has not registered any cases, he said, noting that the category between 15 and 25 years old recorded a percentage of 9.1% and the age group between 40 and 65 reached 36.9%.

The number of deaths due to the virus stands at six, the latest being a 65-year-old Moroccan citizen from the city of Meknes who was suffering from chronic illnesses, Zahri said.

The official also reported one new case of recovery, a 69-year-old man residing in Casablanca, bringing the total number of cured cases to seven.

In addition, he pointed out that the total number of imported cases reached 51%, compared to 49% for local contaminations, noting that, with regard to the health condition of infected cases, 86% are considered stable, while 14% are deemed unstable.

Referring to the medical monitoring of contact persons, Zahri said that the total number of individuals monitored since the announcement of the first case in Morocco has reached 3,109 cases, of which 669 have completed the monitoring period, while 2,341 are still under medical supervision.
