Covid-19: 174 New Confirmed Cases in Morocco, 4,903 in Total, Ministry

Rabat - One hundred seventy-four (174) new cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) infection have been confirmed in Morocco during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of contamination cases to 4,903, the Ministry of Health announced on Sunday. The number of people declared cured rose, until Sunday at 4:00 p.m., to 1,438 with 182 new recoveries, said director of epidemiology and disease control at the Ministry of Health Mohamed El Youbi, in a statement broadcast by MAP on its television channel M24 and on RIM RADIO.

The death toll has risen to 174 after reporting one death in the past 24 hours, the official noted, adding that 1,443 suspected cases have been excluded after analyzes, bringing to 36,081 the total number of cases that turned out to be negative. The new cases are distributed, in particular, between the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Fez-Meknès, Marrakech-Safi, Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima and, to a lesser extent, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, he said, noting that the distribution of the total of cases by regions, sex and average age remained unchanged. The majority of new cases are discovered thanks to the medical follow-up of contact persons, he underlined, specifying that this operation has concerned, since the onset of the pandemic, 27,150 contact persons, of which 8,338 are still under medical surveillance. This operation allowed, since the start, to discover 3,229 confirmed cases, as well as 141 out of 174 new cases reported during the last 24 hours, that is a rate of 81%, he noted.

He also said that the mortality rate is going down to 3.5%, against a steady rise in the recovery rate, which reached 29.3%. Among the new cases of recovery, 81 were recorded in Ouarzazate, he noted, adding that the regions of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab no longer have any cases.
