Claudine Mestari Exhibits
This exhibition presents for the first time in Morocco the work of the artist Claudine Mestari devoted to "Costumes of Morocco."

Claudine Mestari was born  to French Algerian parents in Paris in 1942. She has lived and worked in Marrakech since May 2009.

Self-taught, she has been interested in art since her stay in Romania from 1996 to 2000 where she was introduced on the advice of her husband François Colle to Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement) which is frequently involved in numerous exhibitions, including several in Marrakech. She teaches courses in art.

She is also a talented figurative painter and she began painting in Dax. Philippe  Valiez is her teacher and a renowned painter in this region.

Since the summer of 2011, following the example of one of her aunts she created three-dimensional representations of Moroccan costumes inspired  by the paintings of Jean Besancenot extracted from his book "Costumes of Morocco". It uses a technique which involves the use of textiles, leather, metals, wood, plaster and paint. To be as close as possible to reality, she seeks out fabrics and accessories from Moroccan merchants and craftsmen necessary for its implementation. She even brought  some fabrics to achieve authenticity and creates her own jewelry.
