Chile: President Sebastián Piñera Appoints New Ambassador to Morocco

Santiago - Chilean president Sebastián Piñera has appointed Rafael Puelma Claro as Chile's ambassador to Morocco, the Chilean Foreign ministry said Friday in a statement.

Rafael Puelma Claro, a career diplomat, studied Law and Pedagogy in History and Geography at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago. A graduate of the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy, he also took various courses in consular law, notary law, foreign trade, human resources administration, international negotiations and foreign policy issues.

During his diplomatic career, Rafael Puelma Claro worked in Chilean embassies and consulates in Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, Ecuador, Egypt, Syria, Indonesia, Switzerland, Argentina and Brazil.

He also represented Chile at the United Nations Conferences on the Law of the Sea, the World Conference on Population and Development, the Summit of Heads of State of the Organization of American States (OAS), the World Summit on Security and Terrorism, the World Tourism Organization, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) and the East Asia-Latin America Cooperation Forum.

At the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chile's new ambassador to Morocco served in the Special Policy, South America, Africa and Middle East, and Planning divisions. He also served as deputy director for the Asia-Pacific region and director of consular services.

At the time of his appointment, he was minister advisor at the embassy of Chile in Brazil.
