Chairperson of AU Commission Commends Morocco's Significant Contribution to African Union Various Projects

Rabat – Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat commended Morocco's full support and significant contribution, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, to the various vital projects and programs undertaken by the Union.

This came in a meeting between head of government Saâd Eddine El Othmani, and Moussa Faki Mahamat , who is on a working visit to Morocco. 

A statement by the department of the government’s chief said that the AU official lauded the significant contribution of the Kingdom, notably in the establishment of a continental free trade area, the protocol on the free movement of persons and the agreements relating to continental air transport, in addition to its important contribution to the financing of the African security fund.

The chairperson of the AU Commission also praised Morocco's initiatives in the field of migration and its human approach in dealing with this issue, through its contribution to the economic and social development of the countries concerned and the regularization of the situation of thousands of illegal migrants who are on Moroccan territory.

Regarding bilateral cooperation, both sides raised the prospect of organizing a high-level meeting between AU Commissioners and Moroccan officials to examine different aspects of partnership, particularly in areas where Morocco has broad expertise, such as agriculture, renewable energy, sustainable development, education and vocational training.

For his part, the head of government reaffirmed Morocco's commitment to strengthening and broadening the scope of cooperation with the AU, as well as its continued commitment to all African initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and stability and promoting the continent's economic development.

El Othmani also stressed that Morocco is working to strengthen the tripartite cooperation program with its international partners, particularly on the European continent, in favor of friendly African countries as part of its African strategy to consolidate the conditions for overall development on the continent.
