The previous statement said that four people suffered minor injuries.

The two victims' bodies were pulled from under the rubble following search operations by the rescue teams, it said, adding that a third person stuck in the debris was pulled out alive.

The corpses were carried to the Moulay Youssef hospital morgue, the source said, noting that the other survivor was saved thanks to efforts by the rescue services who maintained contact with the victim while under the wreckage.

Over 150 members of civil defense were mobilized to conduct the rescue operation in addition to medical services and police dog units, the statement said, adding that high tech material was also used.

Out of the 14 families living in the three collapsed buildings, twelve were evacuated while the two remaining families refused to leave the houses as part of a precautionary operation which consists of demolishing the run-down buildings under the Royal Avenue project scheduled to link the Hassan II mosque to the United States square.
