British Council is happy to announce the launch of its newest initiative: Design ◊ Explore, a development and training programme designed especially to mentor 10 young, talented Moroccan emerging designers and help them further develop their design skills and knowledge.

Design ◊ Explore will include two intensive two week ‘residency ‘ programme from Monday 25 March to Friday 6 April 2013, mentoring and support from professional designers and academics ; evaluation and advice from industry professionals; and finally opportunities to showcase the work of the 10 Moroccan designers to leading experts and industry professionals.
Design ◊ Explore residency aims to give participants a good understanding of product/craft design in addition to the opportunity to design and develop their own unique product with the support of British and Moroccan expert designers and tutors. The practical design sessions during the residency will be complemented by a look at all related aspects of being a designer from costing and pricing your work, press and communications to markets, quality and curation.
Design ◊ Explore applicants should be either graduates who have studied design or related disciplines, or have no formal training but previous examples of design work and are enthusiastic about the subject or craftspeople and artisans looking to diversify into industrial design.
The British Council has a commitment to bring UK and Moroccan expertise together to improve competitiveness and the sustainable development of the creative industries in Morocco. Design is a key industry which can add value to other creative industries and support the development of the creative economy more broadly.
