"We are saying, as an African country and a friend country of Morocco, that Burundi, which has always respected countries' territorial integrity, backs Morocco in the Sahara issue", the Burundi head of state told Morocco's TV channel "2M".

Nkurunziza also highlighted similarities and assets shared by the two African countries as well as Morocco's "very important role" in South-South cooperation.

He further applauded Morocco's backing to the reconstruction of his country, compared to "other countries which did not respond spontaneously".

The president of Burundi is taking part in the 25th session of the Crans Montana forum, held in Rabat this June 21-22, under the theme "Cape to South-South, more than a strategy, a necessity".
