Paris - The guarantees provided by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, to the nature of the UN mission in the Moroccan Sahara show that he "rejects the manoeuvres of some parties who attempted to exploit the UN mission, making it lose its neutrality and objectivity", Director of the Centre for Geopolitical Studies (OEG), Charles Saint-Prot, said.

In an analysis entitled "Morocco's Diplomatic Success", Saint-Prot stressed that the phone conversation Thursday between HM King Mohammed VI and Ban Ki-Moon, on the initiative of the latter, has "put an end to speculations about any change of the MINURSO mandate".
This conversation should enable "the resumption of the process aiming to find a solution to an artificial conflict that contributes to undermine regional stability," he said.
He also noted that the solution is "within reach", since it would be enough to provide "full support to the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty, proposed by Morocco and deemed serious, credible and realistic by the great powers and the UN Security Council resolutions".
The expert also recalled that Morocco "has repeatedly stressed the need to preserve negotiation parameters as traditionally defined by the Security Council."
For its part, Algeria, "sponsoring the separatist Polisario group, has made great efforts and mobilized great resources to create a lobby that seeks the extension of the mandate of MINURSO to make it a sort of an inspection body in the internal affairs of the southern provinces of Morocco", Mr. Saint-Prot underlined.
