Assistant SG Jean-Paul Laborde in Rabat for GCTF coordinating committee meeting

New York (United Nations) - Assistant Secretary-General Jean-Paul Laborde, Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED), will travel to Rabat to take part, on April 2-3, in the 5th meeting of the coordination committee of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) and in meetings with Moroccan officials, sources from the Directorates said on Monday in New York.

Laborde will take part in the event as well as in debates on activities by working groups of the GCTF, good practices in some areas and the development of cooperation with international organizations, the same sources said.

During his stay, the UN official will also participate in a series of meetings with top Moroccan officials to think about future counterterrorism strategies in the region, they said, noting that Laborde will highlight Morocco's commitment to fighting this phenomenon.

Morocco, which was the first country to be visited by the Counter-Terrorism Committee in 2005, chaired the said body between 2012 and 2013. A follow-up visit was scheduled in 2013.
