Cairo - Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil al-Arabi, on Thursday urged donor countries and Arab and international organizations, including UN agencies, to provide emergency humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees.
In a statement, Al-Arabi called upon the countries and organizations concerned to provide emergency assistance to the countries hosting large numbers of refugees and displaced persons, particularly Lebanon and Jordan, especially as a snow storm sweeping the region has already taken its toll on Syrian refugees who are facing freezing temperatures, heavy snow, hail, rain and thunderstorms.
According to the Red Cross, two Syrian refugees, including a child of six, died of hypothermia on Wednesday in a mountainous area of southeastern Lebanon hit by a snowstorm
According to UN figures, more than three million Syrians have fled the civil war ravaging their country to become refugees - a million of them in the past year alone.
