Appointment of AU's special envoy for Sahara, an "inappropriate decision", "confusing for negotiations"

Paris - The African Union's decision to appoint an alleged special envoy for the Sahara is an appropriate decision that confuses the negotiations process, said French Senator Christian Cambon.
Appointment of AU's special envoy for Sahara, an
"This is very surprising, not to say stunning, decision, because we consider it as an inappropriate one that confuses the negotiation process", the French senator told MAP.

Cambon, who is also president of the Morocco-France friendship group at the senate, considered that "only the UN and the security council are mandated to find a solution to the Sahara conflict.

"Any decision made by another organization, of whichever nature, is inappropriate and does not contribute to solving the dispute", he went on, arguing that the Sahara issue, which can only be settled at the international level, is the exclusive responsibility of the Security Council.

The French senator also underlined that the Pan-African organization would be well advised to settle the continent's multiple problems, first.

Morocco walked out of the pan-African organization (then known as Organization of African Unity) in 1984 to protest the illegal admission of the so-called Sahrawi Republic.
