Amskroud forest fire: over 800 ha destroyed

Amskroud - Over 800 hectares of forests, made up mainly of thuja, argan and Russian olive, were destroyed by a fire that broke out last Saturday in the Amskroud commune, 50 kilometers away from eastern Agadir.

The affected area is around 800 ha and 450 people are working to put out the fire, head of the department of forest protection at the high commissioner of waters and forests and the fight against desertification Fouad Assali told MAP.

Three fire-fighting planes by the royal air forces and four turbo thrush planes by the royal gendarmerie are used to put out the fire, he said, adding that the forest fire does not pose any threat to properties and adjacent villages.
