Algerian suspected of belonging to 'Jund Al Khilafa' terrorist group remanded in custody in Salé's prison

Salé - The examining magistrate in charge of terrorism affairs at Salé's appeal court annexe ordered, on Thursday, to put on remand, in the city's local prison, an Algerian national suspected of belonging to "Jund Al Khilafa" terrorist group which operates in Algeria, following his interrogation under the preliminary investigation.

According to a legal source, the accused, born in 1984 in Algeria, is sued for "forming a criminal gang to prepare and commit terrorist acts within the framework of a collective plot to seriously undermine public order through intimidation, terror and violence", "funding terrorism", "possession of explosives and guns", "belonging to a banned religious group" and "illegal immigration".

The culprit, apprehended on Jan. 25, was brought by the judiciary police before the public prosecutor at Rabat Appeal Court.

A statement by the Interior Ministry had said that "following meticulous investigations during several months by the General Directorate for National Territory Surveillance, the judiciary police arrested an Algerian national suspected of belonging to "Jund Al Khilafa" terrorist group which operates in Algeria and had claimed responsibility for the killing of French hostage Hervé Gourdel".

The accused had in his possession large quantities of dangerous substances, wireless communication devices, a sketch map that helped discover other important quantities of hazardous substances and guns in the region located between Beni Drar and Ahfir, the same source said.

The probe revealed that the suspect was accompanied by another person who will be arrested after his identification, it added.
