Algerian Auto imports rise by 50% in H1 2012

Algeria imported 263,787 vehicles in the first half of 2012, against 176,901 over the same period in 2011, an increase by 49.12%, the Algerian Customs reported Monday.

The imports bill rose by 48.15%, from 157.16 billion  AD in the first half of 2011 to 233.55 billion  AD over the same period in 2012 (more than US$ 3.15 billion according to the exchange rate set by the Finance Act 2012) according to APS.
 
The value of imported private cars  reached US$1.68 billion in the first six months of 2012, according to the Algerian Customs’ National Centre of Statistics and Data Processing (CNIS).
 
The forty car dealers working in Algeria have imported 248,833 vehicles during the first six months of 2012, against 164,138 vehicles over the same period in 2011, a rise by 51.6%, for 209.74 billion AD (+52.12%), against 137.8 billion AD in H1 2011, according to the Customs’ centre.
