Algerian Armed Forces foil a plan to transfer AQIM leaders to the Sahel region
According to the  news site Echorouk, investigations showed that the terrorist organisation planned an operation of move AQIM leaders to the Sahel countries in two phases, a group led by the terrorist Mousa Bourahla, nicknamed Abou Daoud, leader of the southern region of the organization. He was assigned to go to Tebessa  in the east of Algeria in order to organize the movement  of the leaders, but  this was forestalled  by the  heavy security deployment across the region.

The second group was moving under the leadership of AQIM leader Necib Tayeb to support the first group  in the mountains of Tebessa. <He was arrested with two others at Ghardia.

Investigations with the detainees show that the commander of  AQMI, Abdelmalek Droukdel, gave instructions for the terrorist Nabil Makhloufi,  leader of the Sahara region, and active in the Sahel, to plan and prepare for a range of attacks and terrorist operations to avenge the arrest of the head of the AQIM Judicial Committee Necib Tayeb.  These attacks would target Algerian government officials inside and outside the country, either in Bamako or in the neighbouring countries.

Droukdel also sent the same instructions to the leaders of terrorist groups operating in the Sahel region, including Mohammed Ghadir alias Abdelhamid Abou Zeid, leader of the Tareq ibn Ziyad batallion, and Mokhtar Belmokhtar leader of the Moulathamine (masked men) battalion and other commanders. The result may have been the death of the Algerian vice consul Tahar Touati announced by AQIM, although the Algerian government has so far not verified his death.

Algerian security forces have been  successfully increasing their actions against AQIM recently.
