Algeria welcomes Egypt as Guest of Honour at AIF

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika welcomed the Egyptians and expressed his appreciation for Egypt to participate as a guest of honour at the Algiers International Fair.

He also stressed the importance of reconciliation and productive partnership between Egypt and Algeria, "
said Mustapha Benbada Trade Minister, at a briefing with reporters after the President's visit, El Moudjahid reported.

To the minister, the message of the Head of State is of great significance as it is to resolder the interests between the two countries in a more solid, taking into  account the obvious fact that what is sustainable, it is the investment. Representatives of some 200 Egyptian companies participating in this economic event to scout business opportunities.

The Egyptians expressed their readiness to return in force in Algeria and invest in several fields (construction, medicine, infrastructure ...), has pointed Benbada. The Egyptians know that Algeria is an important market, there is great potential when the Egyptian economy through a difficult  period, with the drop in tourism and social pressures related to the events of Arab Spring.

The implementation of the MOU between Algeria and Egypt in the field of Habitat, signed in March 2008, was the
center of talks Wednesday in Algiers between Algerian and Egyptian ministers in charge of this sector, Noureddine Moussa of Egypt and  Fethi Al Badri of Algeria , said a ministry statement.

The two ministers expressed, on occasion, their willingness to "ensure the implementation of actions identified in the MOU, including the establishment of partnerships between operators in both countries in the field of construction and activating the program of technical meetings between experts and scientists, "said the source.

To this end, both sides agreed to further discussions between the technical structures of the two countries to strengthen cooperation in the field of housing and urban development.

This meeting also allowed  the two men to share experiences of both countries on their respective strategies in the management of the housing market for matching supply and demand.

Both sides noted the importance and the part relating to basic infrastructure and urbanization grade, still indicates the same source.

Before leaving Egypt Mr  Mahmoud Issa  that Egypt's participation in the Algiers International Fair was "a great opportunity to strengthen trade relations and investment between the two brotherly countries",and that the event would also be an opportunity "for meetings between businessmen and investors from both countries to build
partnerships, share experiences, create new investment opportunities and understand the market needs of both countries," the minister added.

Egyptian companies in the sectors of textile, food, chemical, metallurgical, electrical and building materials, as well as service sectors like tourism and travel  are present  at the Fair. The Minister also said He also said he will hold talks with officials in the Algerian government on the revival of the Algeria Egyptian Business Council  .

Agreements between the Algerian agency Export Development (ALGEX) and the Egyptian Center for Developing Exports and a memorandum of understanding on mutual recognition of type approval certificates are also being discussed.

The decision by Algeria to welcome Egypt as the guest of honour at the Algiers International Fair is an important
indication of the wish to develop business links in the North African region. Algeria and Egypt share the same need to increase available housing for their growing populations. It can also be seen as part of Algeria's new
diplomatic drive to strengthen its relations with its neighbours.
