Algeria: Launching an initiative against a fourth term for Bouteflika

 Ahmed Benbitour and Sofiane Djilali called for change which should be achieved primarily through citizen mobilisation around four key points, according to them. "No to a fourth term for the current president, no to the extension of the current mandate, no the revision of the Constitution and no to manipulate the results of the presidential elections," said the former head of the government who presented a black picture of the current situation in the country.

The balance of the 14 year reign of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika is "a disaster", according Sofiance Djilali. "If there was no oil, we would have been in a dismal situation," he added.

Djilali returned to the behavior of the current president vis-à-vis Algerians and his ability to manage the country's affairs. "There is a total disconnect between the government and the nation," he said. Before continuing: "If Bouteflika was employed, we would have to withold his salary withheld because he is absent when needed by Algeriad. We have been in  an act of war, foreigners have entered by the border and hit the heart of the economy and  he did not say a word. "
