Algeria : Islamic parties threaten to withdraw from legislative elections

Three Algerian political parties forming an alliance Islamist threatened Sunday in Algiers to withdraw from the elections on May 10 in Algeria , if there is concrete evidence of fraud before the vote, Echoroukonline reports.

 The alliance called the green Algeria, brings the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP), Nahda (Renaissance) Movement and El Islah (Reform). The head of El Islah, Hamlaoui Akkouchi, said at a joint conference of parties in the alliance that it will withdraw before the electoral event in case there would be evidence of electoral fraud. "And leave us alone with the power to the people," he added.

"The power and fraud is an artist in this field. The people must participate in protecting the elections from beginning to end as did the Tunisian people and Egypt, "added Mr. Akkouchi. "Will we be silent and it is not possible that we withdraw before the date of the legislation". According to the head of al-Nahda Rebiai Fateh, the alliance decided to participate in elections but did not provide a blank cheque to power. Mr. Rebiai stated that "Algeria is at a crossroads and do not need chaos (...) and any attempt to divert voters' choices would be playing with fire". "Attempted Fraud" The parties of the alliance said that the fraud began with the massive registration of military voter after the statutory deadline. The Chair of the Workers' Party Louisa Hanoune (Trotskyist) said  this involved some 33,000 troops have been subscribed after the deadline of 21 February. She further assumed that “such a move is an attempt of election fraud.” However, the Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia has denied such accusations, saying “they are mere allegations meant to doubt the credibility of both the state and the Army
