Vendredi 29 Juin 2018

Rabat - Sentences handed against the accused involved in the Al Hoceima events are first instance verdicts that could be appealed, said minister delegate for relations with parliament and civil society, government spokesperson Mustapha El Khalfi.

Speaking at a press conference following the weekly cabinet meeting, convened under the chairmanship of head of government Saad Eddine El Othmani, El Khalfi said that the said sentences are first instance verdicts and the convicts could appeal them or use other measures guaranteed by the law.

The judiciary is independent from the executive, he said, underlining that the cabinet is not allowed to interfere with decisions by the judiciary.

Verdicts ranging from 20 to one year suspended sentences were given, on Tuesday by the Casablanca's appeal court, against the accused involved in the Al Hoceima events.
