Agadir Jewish Community celebrates Youm Kippour

Agadir - Agadir's Jewish community celebrated Saturday, Yum Kippur, Day of Atonement, considered the most important holiday of the Jewish year, in an atmosphere of piety, prayer and meditation.

At a ceremony in the Agadir synagogue, marked by the presence of the Wali of the Souss -Massa- Draa region, Governor of the Prefecture of Agadir Ida Outanane, the president of the urban commune, elected officials, local authorities, and civil and military officials, the members of the Jewish community prayed for the late King Mohammed V and the late King Hassan II.

In a speech on the occasion, Simon Levy, president of the Jewish community in Agadir, stressed that "faithful to a well-established tradition, we take this opportunity to implore the Almighty God for health, long life, and prosperity to HM king Mohammed VI, and to guide him to achieve prosperity and progress for the Moroccan people."

Prayers were also made to God for Morocco to remain "a haven of peace, a country of tolerance and peaceful coexistence", and for the Moroccan people to "live happy and prosperous in a lasting peace.

"On this sacred day, we pray to God for forgiveness and peace to reign in the world," he said.

Mr. Levy reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Jewish community to the Alaouite throne and His Majesty the King, and its continued involvement to continue "the glorious battle to consolidate Morocco's territorial integrity, national sovereignty and the unity of the Moroccan people.
