AfDB supports young entrepreneurs in Tunisia

The African Development Bank (AfDB launched a new program to help young Tunisian entrepreneurs with start ups. The Souk At tanmia(the Development Market) project will specically target disadvantaged youth with the aim of creating greater equality and tackling the high level of unemployment in Tunisia within the first 3 years of the project.

Selected start ups will be supported with a 10,000  to 30,000  TD grant, the most innovative and job creating projects will receive the highest grants.

The AFDB is working with 19 other organizations to supply funding to Tunisian entrepreneurs, representing both public and private companies. These include the Bank for Financing Small and Medium Enterprises (BFPME), the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the International Labor Organization (ILO), the British Council in Tunisia, the Confederation of Tunisian Citizen enterprises (CONECT), the US Embassy in Tunisia, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO), Young Business Leaders of Enterprises (CJD), the Mediterranean School of Business and Microsoft.

The President of the AfDB Donald Kabukera said that it was "a modest initiative" and that  "capturing innovative ideas and implementing them to create jobs is what we are going to do."
