Speaking to MAP on the sidelines of a celebration of the 2965 Amazigh year, Seddiki highlighted the identity-democracy nexus in the sense that the respect of cultural and identity pluralism is a sine qua non for a democracy.

The balance between identity and pluralism as well as the attachment to universal values represents a shield against all forms of extremism, added the Minister.

The 2011 constitution has enshrined diversity as a source of richness for the national identity, said Seddiki who was attending the Amazigh new year ceremony organised by the Rif Association for Solidarity and Developmment (ARID) in cooperation with the Center of the Collective Memory for Democracy and Peace.

The President of the Center, for his part, shed light on the significance of celebrating the Amazigh new year, saying that such an event is not aimed at establishing an ethnic, cultural or linguistic demarcation but is rather a celebration in line with the consolidation of the democratic process and the preservation of the cultural diversity in Morocco.
