AQIM announced the creation of a sixth regiment of Islamist fighters, named after the Almoravid  King of Morocco, Youssef Ben Tachafine.

The new regiment will be activated in the area extending from northern Mali in southern Algeria, across the border, strangely and inexplicably porous and uncontrollable, between Algeria and Mali.

AQIM has entrusted the command of this Youssef  Ben Tachafin regiment to a Tuareg chief, called Qairaouani Abou Abdel Hamid Al Kidali.

According to the Mauritanian news media, Sahara Times, which published the story ,this would be a first for AQIM, non Algerian occupies a command post of this importance, since the majority of its senior commanders are  from Algeria as is the case with its chief , Abdelmalek Droukdel alias Abu Mosaab Abdelouadoud, or other leaders of the movement: Abdelhamid Abou Zaid, Abu Yahya Al Hammam or Khaled Abou Abbas alias Laouar (the blind).

In this conclave of leaders from Algeria, a Mauritanian was the only one to break the rule, called Hassan Ould Mohamed Lamine Ould Hadrami  he was made commander of a fighting group.
