5th Joint Russian-Moroccan Intergovernmental Commission Gives New Impetus to Bilateral Cooperation

Rabat - The 5th Joint Russian-Moroccan Intergovernmental Commission, held Wednesday in Rabat, has given new impetus to cooperation between Morocco and Russia and further consolidated bilateral relations in political, economic and strategic fields.

Speaking on this occasion, Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar hailed the positive momentum that has made Morocco the first trading partner of Russia in Africa and the Arab world. 
 
"The will to reinforce relations with Russia is not dependent on a specific situation or context. This is a strategic choice that emanates from the historic ties between the two countries," Mezouar stressed. 
 
"Our shared ambition is to create new opportunities in the context of a future-oriented strategic partnership," Mezouar said, noting that there are promising opportunities to promote and diversify investments. 
 
The minister said that trade exchange increased by 35 pc in 2013 and 40 pc in the first seven months of 2014, calling for improving the structure of trade. 
 
For his part, Russian Agriculture Minister Nikolai Fyodorov said that the commission is an ideal framework to give new impetus to the cooperation agreement signed in October 2002 between Morocco and Russia to explore investment opportunities, strengthen economic ties and boost trade. 
 
Fyodorov noted the importance of diversifying trade and exploring other areas of cooperation, including tourism, aeronautics and energy, reiterating the commitment of his country to explore in Moroccan sedimentary basins.
