41 National, International Organizations Accredited to Observe Morocco's Elections

Rabat - The Special Commission for the Accreditation of Election Observers has accredited 41 national and international organizations, including 34 Moroccan associations, the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) and six international NGOs .

These organizations will provide over 4,000 observers, including 76 international observers, who will observe the campaigns and the elections of the Councils of the regions and the municipalities, due on September 4th, the elections of the prefectural and provincial councils, due on September 17th, and the elections of the House of Councilors, due on October 2nd, CNDH said Sunday in a statement.

Following the examination of accreditation applications, the Commission rejected the request of 16 associations for incomplete files or because their statutory purpose is not in line with the areas set out in paragraph 2 of Article 2 of the law 30.11, the same source said, adding that the Commission had received 67 accreditation applications.

In addition to national organizations, the commission has accredited several international organizations, namely the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), the National Democratic Institute (NDI), Elections in the Arab world Network, the Center of Human Rights Studies in Cairo, the Federation of Human Rights centers in the Arab world and Gender Concerns International.

Other organizations and international experts will participate in the observation at the invitation of CNDH. These include the diplomatic missions of Canada, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, and the national human rights institutions (NHRIs) of Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Palestine and Tunisia.

In the same context, the Arab Network of NHRIs, the network of United Cities and Local Governments-Africa (UCLG-Africa) and the Observatory of political elections in the Arab and Muslim world have been invited.

An electoral mission of the European Union is in Morocco on August 15 through September 14 for an overall assessment of the framework and the electoral process, the statement said.
