21st International Publishing and Book Fair SIEL opens in Casablanca

Casablanca - The 21st International Publishing and Book Fair (known by its French acronym SIEL), running until Feb. 22 under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, kicked off on Thursday in Casablanca.

The yearly Fair includes rich and diversified program with the participation of 750 publishers from 44 countries.

Speaking on this occasion, head of government Abdelilah Benkirane underlined that this fair has become a tradition and a cultural event of broad scope that is attended by professionals in the field as well as visitors. 

Culture minister Mohamed Amine Sbihi said that the choice of Palestine as guest of honor shows the deep historical and spiritual relations between Morocco and Palestine and crowns the Moroccan-Palestinian interaction in several areas.

Head of Palestinian delegation to SIEL Yahya Yakhlef said that the Palestinian people has commended the choice of Palestine as guest of honor by the organizers.

Several book prizes for the year 2015 were handed in the categories of humanities, social sciences, and literary, linguistic and artistic studies as well as the translation prize.
