2016 World Cup: Morocco's Bid Committee Congratulates North-American Trio
Moscow – The Moroccan bid committee congratulated the North-American trio (USA-Canada- Mexico), selected Wednesday at the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow, to host the 2026 World Cup, stressing Morocco’s determination to carry out the projects presented as part of its bid.
"Following the choice of +United-2016+ bid to host the 2026 World Cup at the FIFA Congress, held in Moscow on 13 June 2018, the Morocco 2026 bid committee congratulates the North American trio and wishes them good luck," the committee said in a statement.
It also warmly thanked the countries that voted for the Moroccan bid, and paid tribute to all the teams that participated in the +Maroc-2016+ bid campaign with professionalism and selflessness.
"Morocco is proud to have conducted a committed and ethical campaign that is in full compliance with the FIFA rules. Morocco has demonstrated its ability to host a World Cup," said president of the bid committee, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, quoted in the statement.
Under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, Morocco is determined to continue on its path, he said, noting that “the projects we have presented as part of the bid will be achieved”.
“We have managed this bid with sportsmanship and we are going to follow our path with the same spirit”, Elalamy added.
FIFA awarded, on Wednesday, the 2026 World Cup to USA, Canada and Mexico who are to host the event jointly.
"United-2026" won the final vote at the 68th FIFA Congress by 134 votes, ahead of "Maroc-2026", which was supported by 65 Federations.
