The 12th Autumn Exhibition of small format, an annual event dedicated to the arts, opens from 12 to 30 November at the Dar El Kenz Gallery (Chéraga, Algiers) works by renowned Algerian painters alongside the new generation of artists.

The exhibition, whose opening was held on Saturday, brings together a hundred paintings with diversified themes and techniques created by 27 artists from different generations, offering a wide range of contemporary works ranging from figurative to abstract through to sculpture.
 
Visitors can enjoy three oil paintings by Abdelwahab Mokrani, whose portrait titled "Marilyn" which sparked a famous photograph of the Hollywood star in shades of yellow and brown, restoring a more human dimension to the icon accentuating the line in its inner suffering, a subtle play of colours and reliefs.
 
A painting which earned the artist a description as "a worthy successor to Mohammed Issiakhem" by gallery director, Zahia Guelimi, referring to the tortured faces of portraits of  the famous Algerian painter.
 
Through to more familiar themes, such as scenes of life, the artist Djanet Dahel  tries to "motion capture" in vivid watercolors glorifying the Tuareg lifestyle and traditions.
 
Work which "plays mainly on instinct and speed," as the artist explains, referring to the speed required by the work of painting with water.
 
Southern Algeria is also at the center of paintings  by Sellami Halim, who teaches fine arts at Touggourt. '
 
“Sellami paintings are recognizable by all, "said the director of the gallery, referring to the very special work being created by the artist using various materials to give an embossed effect to his paintings, mostly portraits of men and women typical of the region.
 
In the register of  sculpture, Mohamed Arezki Mezahem offers "Ifinek" wooden chests carefully reworked characteristic of his native Kabylia and whose origin is Punic, according to the artist.
 
In addition, the exhibition can (re) discover the works of famous artists such as Algerian Souhila Boubahar, Hioun Salah or German artist established in Guelma Bettina Heinen-Ayech.
