Under the guidance of the Green Morocco Plan since its inception in 2008, the World Bank has agreed to grant an extension of a financial Morocco $ 203 million.

Recalling that first loan in this direction had already been approved in March 2011 for the benefit of the kingdom, a source from the World Bank stated that the purpose of the new loan is to support key reforms contained in the National Plan, to strengthen domestic markets to help small producers, strengthen agricultural services and improve the distribution of irrigation water.

The first loan enabled the series to establish transparent procedures for access to funds for diversification and intensification of agricultural production and commercialization of products, especially for the benefit of small producers.

So far, 5.6 billion dirhams ($ 680 million) have been allocated to more than 200,000 small producers in Morocco, says the same source.

On this occasion Simon Gray, Director of the Maghreb Department of the World Bank, said that "The Green Morocco Plan is a comprehensive program designed to address critical challenges such as food security and the integration of Morocco into the global economy "He added that" The promotion of an open and diverse help boost the performance of the agri-food sector and rural poverty. "

For its part, Chauvot Xavier de Beauchene, project manager at the World Bank explained that "reforms irrigation systems such particular importance," noting that they "lead to the establishment of a new model that will enhance the effectiveness of the management and use of water, significantly increase farm income and help small producers to improve their livelihoods. "

Note that the World Bank has developed its series of Development Policy Loans in parallel with two grants from the Global Environment Fund.

A grant of $ 4.35 million by the Special Fund for Climate Change, adopted in 2011, supports the integration of adaptation to climate change in the implementation of the Green Morocco Plan to help Morocco to better resilience to climatic shocks.

Another grant of 6.44 million approved earlier this month will help small producers to implement conservation measures for land and biodiversity in marginal areas, to ensure that the intensification of agriculture promoted by the national level is consistent with the protection of the environment.

The Green Morocco Plan, has been supported by the World Bank and other donors such as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Belgian Development Agency (BTC ), or the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
