The forum, a platform to debate economic challenges and stakes in the West Mediterranean region and associated regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa, will be held in the presence of Spain's head of government, Mariano Rajoy, and foreign ministers of several member-countries of the Western Mediterranean forum, known as the 5+5 dialogue.

Portugal and Mauritania, the two sponsor countries will co-chair the meeting that follows suit to the West Mediterranean forum summit, held in Malta last year, at the level of heads of government of member-countries.

The economic forum will bring together senior officials of enterprise associations of France, Italy, Libya, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia and Algeria.

Founded in 1990 in Roma, the 5+5 group comprises the five southern Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia) and five northern Mediterranean countries (Spain, France, Italy, Malta and Portugal).
