The US ambassador, who toured the cemeteries that are being rehabilitated by the Fund of ambassadors for cultural preservation, also underlined the shared history of various communities and religions living in this Atlantic city.

In 2012, the US embassy in Rabat extended to the High Atlas Foundation a subsidy for a project to maintain and preserve the Muslim, Christian and Jewish cemeteries in Essaouira which stand as present-day reminders of the multicultural past of this small city and Morocco at-large.
