UK Digital Library Launched for Young Moroccan Students

Mardi 9 Juin 2020

Rabat - A UK digital library aimed particularly at young Moroccan students was launched on Tuesday in Rabat, on the initiative of the ministry of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, in partnership with the British Council Morocco.

Resulting from a strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Kingdom in the field of higher education and scientific research, this digital library aims to consolidate and promote the distinguished relationship between the ministry and the British Council by making available online and free of charge a large number of cultural and scientific teaching resources and distance learning programs, in English language, for the benefit of students, teachers and researchers.

On this occasion, minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, government spokesman, Saaid Amzazi, highlighted the excellent level of Moroccan-British relations, noting that "the higher education and scientific research sector is a driving force behind the exceptional bilateral cooperation between the two Kingdoms".

This cooperation, he said, was confirmed during the first meeting of the Morocco-British Joint Commission on Higher Education and Scientific Research, held January 22 in London, as well as on the occasion of the Education World Forum held in London January 19-22, 2020, attended by Morocco.

For his part, minister delegate for Higher Education and Scientific Research, Driss Ouaouicha, highlighted the significance of "this generous gesture that offers young Moroccans access to the British Council's digital library, which has nearly 100,000 digital books (e-book) in various academic fields, including anthropology, business, economics, information technology, engineering, fine arts, history, law, medicine and physical sciences.

On his turn, director of the British Council Morocco, Tony Reilly, said that "in these difficult times, we want to provide young Moroccans with access to a carefully organized set of British resources," adding that "now more than ever, it is important to facilitate cultural exchange and collaboration.

He invited "all Moroccans to discover and benefit from the rich resources we have gathered in this unique collection of the British Council digital library".

Registration in the British Council's digital library is free for all Moroccans aged 18 and over. It offers online access to thousands of digital books, including newspapers, magazines, films, music and other cultural and scientific educational resources. Distance learning is also part of the content available in this virtual library.

The first British Council digital libraries application will be launched in June, allowing users to access content from their smartphones anywhere, anytime.
