Tunisian Newspapers Strike for Free Speech
The newspapers accuse the Islamist-led Tunisian government of trying to control the media by appointing Ennahda sympathizers to head state-owned media groups.

"The struggle for freedom of the press and expression begins in Dar Assabah" said the representative of the international exchange network of freedom of expression (Ifex-Tunisia)."This is a decisive action to prevent the return of dictatorship and the confiscation of individual and collective freedoms," he said.

Sana Farhat, journalist and representative of SNJT Dar Essabah "no progress has been registered in our case with the government", she lamented, " it did not respond to the demands of agents and journalists group ".

She  suggested that Ennahda is clamping down on free expression in order to manipulate public opinion ahead of the 2013 general elections.

The Tunisian interim government has been repeatedly  criticised for alledgedly attempting to quash freedom of expression and of the press.  In early July, the National Body for the Reform of Information and Communication (INRIC), disbanded in protest, saying that the Ennahda-led government had made its work impossible.  “The body does not see the point in continuing its work,” said INRIC director Kamel Labidi.

Ennhada has denied the allegations and accuses some journalists of being sympathisers of the previous  regime and guilty of corruption.
