Tunisia receives first tranche of EIB loan

Mr Philippe de Fontaine Vive, Vice-President of the EIB (European Investment Bank), conducted yesterday in Tunis, the signing of seven loan agreements for a total value of 170 million euros (340 million dinars).

It is a credit line of 70 million euros was signed by M.Riadh Bettaieb, Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, which will be used to finance the rehabilitation program and integration of residential neighborhoods (Priqh) and a line of credit worth 100 million euros will be allocated for the financing of SMEs by six banks and leasing companies:  BT, the BTKD, Amen Bank, Attijari Bank, and Tunisia Attijari Leasing.

This line will mainly finance small and medium sized projects  whose cost does not exceed 25 million euros.
The second line of credit granted to the Tunisian government (represented by the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation) will co-financine  the rehabilitation and integration of residential neighborhoods. The program's  main objectives are to improve the urban environment and living conditions of the inhabitants, rebalancing investments for urban regeneration areas that have suffered from a lack of support in recent decades.

Riadh Bettaieb noted that this program will be implemented by the Agency for Rehabilitation and Renewal (Arru) is part of the policy of economic and social development of the country that is more inclusive. He has also stated that this program will benefit 119 districts in 24 governorates.

With regard to the line of credit signed for the private sector, he said that it gives priority to financing  SME's and aims to support private initiatives to stimulate economic activity and boost growth while allowing the creation of sustainable jobs.

 The 170 million euro loan agreement  released yesterday, is the first part of a commitment by the EIB of 270 million euros in favor of employment, SMEs and infrastructure in disadvantaged neighbourhoods .
