Tunisia: State or Emergency renewed for a month
The statement added that "this decision is the result of the remarkably improved security situation in the country"and
pointed out the efforts exerted by the military and security authorities to bring the state of emergency to an end. The state of emergency has been in force since the auster of former president Zine Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011.

Tunisia has been plagued with disorder because of demonstrations in deprived areas in the east of the country and youth unemployment as well as violent salafist demonstrations including a week of serious riots in many centres in Tunisia including the capital in June 2012. This was sparked by a demonstration against an art exhibition at the La Marsa art gallery.
