Tunisia: Mohamed Abbou resigns

Secretary General of the Congress for the Republic (CPR) resigned yesterday through a letter that he sent to the leaders of his party informing them of his decision to leave the CPR.

According to informed sources close to the party Mr Abbou explained that the reason for his resignation were the multiple internal conflicts that shook the party that is looking for solutions to the country's problems according to the Tunisian daily La Presse.

"The CPR consists with a diversity of ideologies, which became a source of conflict instead of wealth in the CPR," said Lazhar Chemli, a meber of the CPR (office Monastir), who also resigned yesterday. Chemli announced his resignation is due to non-compliance with decisions of the National Council of the Political Bureau of the CPR, in particular concerning the withdrawal of Party ministers from the current government.

On the other hand, Abbou said in his letter that he intends to create a new party based on the principles of the Arab-Muslim identity, the social balance of rights and the fight against corruption . According to reliable sources, the new party, which will be announced today by Abbou, includes members of  of the CPR and former members who are now moving to the Wafa party.

The TAP website said that it was unable to confirm Mr Abbou's resignation.
