Tunisia: Consultations on new government continue.

Mercredi 6 Mars 2013

The "penultimate phase "of consultations on the line-up of the new government conducted by Prime Minister-designate Ali Larayedh and political parties' representatives ended on Tuesday afternoon without reaching an agreement in principle on sovereign ministries and on the Religious Affairs Department, TAP reported.
Tunisia: Consultations on new government continue.

Representatives of Ennahdha, Ettakatol, the Congress for the Republic (CPR) party, the Democratic Coalition and the Freedom and Dignity Group took part in the discussions alongside Ali Larayedh. The Wafa party withdrew from the discussions citing the lack of a clear program or the new government. The sticking point appears to be the dissolution of the leagues for the protection of the revolution which form a pro islamist militia. According to one spokesman the government has requested state litigation authority to freeze these leagues.

In Paris Mustapha Ben Jaafar the National Consitutent Assembly  speaker met with President Francois Hollande and Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius. President Hollande  said that "France believes in the Tunisian model, stands by Tunisia and supports its democratic transition process". He emphasised the need to adopt a consititution suited to the needs of the Tunisian people before the elections and that French Tunisian economic relations should be reviewed on the basis of "solidarity based development.
