Tunisia: Armed Cell is linked to Al Qaeda, Interior Ministers says, 12 suspects held
The minister, Ali Laarayedh, said Tunisian forces had killed two militants on Feb. 2 after a gun battle the day before that wounded two soldiers and a national guard member. He said that 12 other people had been arrested on suspicion of belonging to the group and that 34 Kalashnikov assault rifles had been seized in a raid, along with large amounts of ammunition and cash.

At least nine suspects escaped. Those arrested, all under age 30, said they were seeking to establish an Islamic emirate in Tunisia, Mr. Laarayedh said, citing their confessions, adding that they were in touch with Qaeda elements in Libya and possibly Algeria.
