Lundi 27 Juillet 2020

Rabat - Taking into account the considerable increase, in recent days, of cases of Covid-19 contamination in several prefectures and provinces, it was decided to ban, as from midnight on Sunday, July 26, travel to and from the cities of Tangier, Tetouan, Fez, Meknes, Casablanca, Berrechid, Settat and Marrakech, said Sunday a joint statement by the ministries of Interior and Health.

Here follows the full text of the statement:

Taking into account the considerable increase in recent days in cases of Covid-19 contamination in several prefectures and provinces;

And based on the conclusions of daily monitoring and periodic evaluation of the epidemiological situation in our country;

And as part of the strengthening of the measures taken to stem the spread of this pandemic;

It has been decided to ban travel to and from the cities of Tangier, Tetouan, Fez, Meknes, Casablanca, Berrechid, Settat and Marrakech from midnight on Sunday 26 July.

The persons excluded from this decision are people with urgent medical needs, individuals working in the public and private sectors with mission orders issued by their managers, provided that they obtain a special travel permit issued by the local authorities.

It should be noted that this ban does not apply to the transport of goods and commodities which takes place under normal and fluid conditions to supply citizens with their daily needs.

This decision was taken in view of the failure of the majority of citizens to comply with preventive measures, namely social distancing, the wearing of masks and the use of disinfectants, despite their availability in large quantities on the markets, leading to the spread of infection and an increase in confirmed cases.

Faced with this situation, the public authorities call on citizens to strictly comply with these measures, on pain of rigorous repressive measures, in accordance with the law.
