Timbuktu: the jihadists confirm their supremacy
The rebel leader of the 1990s and founder of Ansar Dine is said to want to create an Islamic Republic by non-violence. He was  seen in the holy city yesterday around 9am. He headed, according to an eyewitness towards the camp that hitherto had been  occupied by Arab militias and planted two flags at the gate: the black jihadi banner with huge "Allah Akbar" and the yellow and Red of the  Republic of Mali.

"He wore a white jellabah, matching his turban and was accompanied by some bearded followers," says our source. One of those bearded followers, is a trader of the place is said to know " Oumar Ould Amaha". This name appears in the security reports. He is indeed one of the trusted followers of Belmoktar. Iyad Ag Ali had often been asked to help negotiate the  release of hostages.

Has Iyad Ag Ali come to Timbuktu, as he says with the leading Salafis Belmoktar and Abuzeid? Nobody has been able to confirm it.

However, He was heard to say that it was not the MNLA - whose headquarters are run by Mohamed Ag Najim, military leader of themovement at the airport which is located at the entrance to the city that makes the law  in Timbuktu but "Sharia".  The Ansar Dine boss,in a seduction operation, went to "greet patients at the hospital in the city and give them medicine."

Shortly after this visit, he dispersed his troops into the city to "ask women to veil." In a tone of persuasion and not with threats, said an employee of Ong who even noticed the success of jihadists with children that "they handed out candy and chewing gum." Ag Ali wanted to be reassuring: "We came to spread the word of God and not to harm the people and their property," he vowed. He added, according to our witness, "theft is haram." Before imposing a public punishment on four young Arab militiamen caught in the act of sabotaging facilities . "Shortly before the evening prayer, he held a meeting with the five major imams of the city," says a faithful one who prayed with him.
