The second meeting of the art of Malhoun El Jadida (Morocco)

The second international meeting of Malhoun art called "Malhounyat" is being held in Azemmour and El Jadida (190km south of Rabat) from August 2 to 4 with the participation of over one hundred artists from Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, Iran and Algeria represented by singer Hakiki Rym.

Festival organizers announced the programming of several musical fusions with a duet between the singer and Rym Hakiki Marahati Moroccan Sanaa and one between the "Hadra issaouiya" (trance issaoua) and "tounissiya Hadra" (Tunisian trance) of Sfax.
 
They also announced the organization of a forum under the theme "Mysticism in the art of home malhoun"  in which specialists such as Dr. Abbas El Jirari, Moroccan researcher and author of several publications Heritage Arab and Islamic thought, Dr. Fawzi Skalli, Sufi thinker and founder of the Festival of Sacred Music in Fez, and the musicologist Abd Salam Khalloufi.
 
The forum will address the theme of man, time and spiritual journey.
 
Malhoun music is heavily loaded lyrical and spiritual resembling Algerian Chaabi. It uses the sounds of kaman (Western violin), oud (lute), bass and percussion instruments.
 
The first meeting of Melhoun which was held from August 11 to 13, 2011 was inaugurated by Algerian artist Rachid Toumi, from the oldest associations of Andalusian music, the prestigious "Al-Djazair el-Mossilia" (1927) under the guidance of master Sid Ahmed Serri.
