The forum of Sino-Arab Cooperation in Tunisia

Top officials of China and Tunisia said on Friday that the two countries are confident in the prospect of their bilateral ties."Tunisia is full of confidence about the broad prospect of the relations with China," Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki said during a meeting with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.

Marzouki said the Tunisian people always cherish the friendship with Chinese, and Tunisia regards China as an example of  successful social and economic development., according to Xinhua.

Tunisia is willing to strengthen cooperation and exchange with China in various areas and to further their coordination on international and regional affairs, the Tunisian president said.

For his part, the Chinese foreign minister said China and Tunisia enjoy impressive traditional friendship and have seen remarkable achievements in their cooperation in various areas.

Under the backdrop of significant changes in the international and regional political arena, the development of China-Tunisia  relations is facing a new opportunity and a broad prospect, Yang said, expressing China's willingness to work together with Tunisia to further enhance political mutual trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation in all areas, and promote cultural exchange, so as to continuously upgrade the friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries.

After attending the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the China- Arab Cooperation Forum in Tunisia's eastern city Hammamet, Yang arrived in the Tunisian capital Friday morning for an official visit, and held talks with the Tunisian president, prime minister and foreign minister.

Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali said during the meeting with Yang that in the new situation Tunisia attaches more importance to China's role in the international affairs and the cooperation with China.

The cooperation between the two countries has a strategic significance and is of the interests of both sides, Jebali said.

Defining the cooperation as "highly complementary," Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdesslem pledged during talks with Yang to improve Tunisia's environment for investment and welcomed investment by Chinese companies in his country.

The Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci called "pay special attention" to Chinese investment in Arab countries in the field of transfer of knowledge and technology, through the realization of more training programs, partnership and common  management.

In a statement to the APS, after the close of the forum of Sino-Arab Cooperation held Thursday in Hammamet, the Minister stressed the need "to give greater consideration to investments in technology transfer and knowledge, through "the establishment and implementation" of more training programs and joint management. investment, he said, "is not limited only  to the construction of factories and the material aspects" .

Medelci called for the need to expand joint projects to give them a multilateral dimension, including the Arab countries and China, in addition to promoting bilateral cooperation.


He felt it necessary to create a  "flexible" mechanism to ensure effective coordination in the various areas of cooperation between Arab countries and China, during the period between the two ministerial sessions of the Sino-Arab forum.

He welcomed the trade relations between the two parties who have reached exceptional levels, with a trade volume of nearly  200 billion, noting that the results of trade cooperation are ahead of expectations and goals set. In parallel, the minister
 said that the volume of Chinese investment in Arab countries remained "weak", because it is less than $ 7 billion, which does not reflect "the level of Sino-Arab".

The 5th forum of Sino-Arab Cooperation adopted a recommendation which aims to boost cooperation especially in areas considered "complementary" between China and Arab countries like energy, renewable energy, the agriculture and tourism, so  that the volume of Chinese investment in Arab countries in 2014 reached nearly $ 20 billion, said the head of Algerian Diplomacy.

Chinese construction companies have completed many projects over recent years in Algeria and are well known for their efficiency and delivering their projects on time.
