The Foreign Minister of Mali to meet the MNLA and Ansar Dine

A new pase opened up on December 3rd in the conflict over northern Mali. For the first time since the beginning of the crisis, an official Malian government delegation vists Ouagadougou.

At the invitation of Ecowas mediator President Blaise Compaoré, the delegation will  begin talks Tuesday with two armed groups in the north, the separatist  Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) and the Islamist  group Ansar Dine. The mediator Burkina Faso will use the first day to meet with the Malian delegation and the first attempt to appease dissonances. Yesterday,  Malian President Dioncounda Traoré met with President Mamadouh Issoufou of Niger , RFI reported.

.After a long hesitation, Mali has finally agreed to meet Ansar Dine and the MNLA, for a preliminary dialogue.Led by the Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tieman Coulibaly, this three-person delegation was received this afternoon by President Compaoré.
 
Tomorrow, Tuesday, Blaise Campaore will  explain to his guests  the objective: to offer a complete cessation of hostilities between armed movements and, in return for which the players must accept the reunification of the territory and the renunciation of Sharia.  The political agenda of negotiations will then open.
 
For its part, the Islamist Ansar Dine  has reiterated that it has distanced itself from AQIM, Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
 
The MNLA has refused to meet with Ansar Dine which it says is also a terrorist organisation. The ECOWAS mediator will have to restore confidence between the different parties.
 
The Malian President confirmed during a joint press conference with Nigerian President Issoufou that a Malian delegation would travel to Ouagadougou for a preliminary dialogue between Mali and groups operating in the North, but who have expressed desire to enter into negotiations with the Malian authorities, he confirmed.
