These artists include the quartet of the traditional Berber music Inouraz and three members of the Big Band (Gibril Bennani, Mekkaoui Nour-eddine and Mustafa Adli).

This artist residency, to be held from March 26 to 30, 2012, will take place in Casablanca in the premises of our partner EAC L'Boulvart in Technopark.

At the closing of the residency, a concert film “The Adventures of Prince Ahmed” will be organized. During this concert, a silent film will be screened, accompanied by a live spectacle by a group of musicians created and directed by Arun Ghosh, in collaboration with Moroccan musicians, mixing hip-hop rhythms with jazz songs and oriental melodies.

The concert film will take place on Saturday 31 March at Mohamed VI theatre in Casablanca, starting 08:30 pm.
The screening of « Prince Ahmed » offers a harmonious blending of animation movie and the shadow of the silhouette of Arun and his orchestra. This original and innovative concert film constitutes a true audiovisual delight, which combines cinema, theatre and music.

The artists will present the contemporary original soundtrack « The adventures of Prince Ahmed » by Lotte Reiniger (1926) - the oldest surviving feature-length animated film in the history of film making industry. This leading silhouette film, based on the tales of Arabian nights, creates a breath-taking hypnotic visual imagery.
First organized in Deptford-London in March 2010 by The Albany as co-producer with Camoci Records, and revitalized by Ghosh, the concert film was presented in London Southbank Center and Manchester Bridgewater Hall.

Together with Arun Ghosh, resident artists will rewrite the musical of concert films by adapting it to the Moroccan cultural and musical context. “Jam sessions”- improvisation sessions- will probably take place with other invited artists, in order to extend the creative circle of this multidisciplinary musical training. This eclectic collaboration will be crowned by its presentation to the public, allowing the audience to live a breathtaking audiovisual experience.

Arun Ghosh :
The clarinettist and pianist Arun Ghosh offers a music that stands in between Calcutta and London. His creations, inspired from his Indian heritage, give birth to a mosaic Jazz. He succeeds in combining oriental phrasing with Anglo-Saxon contemporary sounds, all with a soft exotic touch, which reminds us of the auspicious rustic oboe of North India, the Shenai.

Liran Donin :
Liran Donin is a contrabassist from London. His adopts a melodic and free approach to music. He is now designing and realizing his own solo equipment, inspired from folk music, free jazz, and his Moroccan heritage music.

Rastko Rasic :
With a diploma from Berklee College of Music in Boston, the British percussionist immersed himself in London in musical scenes as various as his tastes for music: From Jazz to pop through world music. Since the very beginning, his main source of inspiration has been the rich musical heritage of the Balkans, which continues to charm him up to now.

Gibril Bennani :
Violin soloist, he received a classical training in Rabat and Marseille (Conservatoire national de région-Marseille). He teaches violin at the national music conservatoire in Rabat and at the international school of music in Casablanca.
Nour-eddine Mekkaoui:

Professor of cello at the national conservatoire and the military conservatoire of the gendarmerie royale, he received the honour Prize of cello. He participated in numerous events in Morocco and abroad (artistic residencies, festivals, trainings…).

Mustafa Adli :
First saxophone player of the philharmonic orchestra of Morocco since 2000, Mustafa Adli worked as professor of saxophone and as head of the « Big Band » at the FAR base between 1997 and 2010. He took part in numerous international festivals of military music in France, Holland, Italy, and Germany.

Inouraz :
Composed of four musicians from different musical horizons, Inouraz offers an innovative work on the traditional and spiritual heritage of the Amazigh music, based on ancient rhythms and melodies. Inouraz is limited by no frontiers, nor is their music governed by any rules. The group takes us through the Orient, South America and Africa, in a journey full of surprises where different rhythms intermingle, from jazz to ancient sounds from the deep middle-atlas, to rhythms of the Souss valleys and kabyl melodies.

L’EAC-L’Boulvart (Education artistique et culturelle) is non-profit cultural association working for the promotion and development of the urban culture. The main goal of the association is to develop all forms of alternative artistic creation. In this regard, the EAC has organised, for over 10 years, different educative, artistic, and cultural activities (workshops, BAFA/BAFD trainings, holiday camps, cine-clubs, music concerts, theatre plays, spectacles…) in the Fédération des Œuvres Laïques.

Works of the EAC- l'Boulvart are certainly centred on music, particularly design and organization of the urban music festival L’Boulevard and other concerts of urban and alternative music, but its field of intervention goes well beyond the realization of musical events.
