TSA: The Silence of Bouteflika regarding the war in Mali

Facing the war that began in Mali, especially after the French military intervention to stop the offensive of terrorist groups to the south of that country; Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has not yet responded to this escalation of the conflict.

Algiers refused the military option from the outset, emphasising "dialogue" as its policy. Algiers took the initiative to sponsor "an agreement" with Ansar Dine seen by Paris as a terrorist group, and the MNLA, Movement for the Liberation of Azawad. Both groups had pledged to "refrain from any action likely to create a situation of confrontation and any form of hostility in the area they control."  Ansar Dine subsquently renounced its ceasefire.

However, Bouteflika has said nothing against this. Saturday, the official news agency APS said that Bouteflika  spoke laboriously, in an interview with the French agency AFP, repeating that Algeria calls for "a negotiated political solution between the Malian government and rebel groups which agree to stay Malian in the national community and, clearly reject terrorist and criminal activities " the Algerian website TSA  says.

In addition, the spokesman of the Algerian  Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amar Belani assured following the French military intervention that "Algeria condemns in the strongest terms the incursions and attacks by terrorist groups in the region of Mopti it considers it a new aggression against the territorial integrity of Mali. "

However, the Algerian media wonder about Algeria's doctrinaire position about its refusal of foreign military intervention in the Sahel, and the commitment by Algeria to groups such as  Ansar Dine, which have now  suddenly become "terrorist groups?".

This means that  Algerian diplomacy has shot itself in the foot, according to the same source.
