Syria crisis: Kofi Annan quits as UN-Arab League envoy
He blamed UN Security Council for "finger-pointing and name-calling" and called for the international community to find the courage and leadership to over come their partial interests to relieve the suffering Syrian people.

What this shows is the increasing ineffectiveness of the united Nations in resolving international conflicts. It also
reveals an increasing polarisation between Russia and China and the rest of the Security Council, notably America almost along cold war lines. Unless a solution to the Syrian conflict can be found quickly a wider regional war may result involving Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iran and Israel.

America and Israel are discussing the military option. Again the UN Security Council is hardly involved and its increasing irrelevance and inability to act  in many cases may have grave consequences for world peace.
