Mercredi 15 Juillet 2020

Rabat - A special operation to transport passengers from authorized ports in France and Italy will be carried out within the framework of the specific action plan for the return of Moroccans residing abroad as well as Moroccans and foreigners residing in the Kingdom, the ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water said Tuesday.

In a statement, the department stated that it had "established contacts with the port authorities of the liaison ports in France and Italy in order to coordinate all port and maritime operations".

The ministry also mobilized national and foreign shipowners, as well as administrations and partner institutions, to set up a fleet plan adapted to long-distance shipping lines from the ports of Sète in France and Genoa in Italy.

"Provisional authorizations will be granted to selected shipowners who undertake to give full effect to the provisions of the specifications put in place by the ministry to ensure safe and secure transport and protect the health of passengers and crews," the statement said.

The said specifications lay down the operating conditions for those lines and the health provisions set by the competent authorities. In this context, contacts have been made between all the parties involved and ship visits have been carried out for the implementation of the health protocols.

Two ships of the fleet plan, set up by the ministry of Equipment, Transport and Logistics and Water, are thus being equipped by COVID-19 virus analysis laboratories, according to the guidelines of the health authorities.

These two ships will have to leave respectively the port of Sète to Nador on July 15, 2020 and the port of Genoa to Tangier Med on July 16, while the other ships of the fleet plan will be equipped with analysis laboratories in the coming days taking into account their berthing in Moroccan ports.
