Sonatrach Announces New Oil Discoveries
The Sonatrach Group, along with several of its foreign partners from Russia (Gazprom), Thailand (PTTEP) and China (CNOOC), announced Monday that they had made two new discoveries of oil, some 800 km south of Algiers.

Sonatrach said in a statement here Monday that it made the first discovery with Gazprom in the perimeter El Assel, and another one with its Thai and Chinese partners, PTTEP and CNOOC, in the perimeter Hassi Bir Rekaiz, according to APS.
The findings were achieved after the drilling of exploration wells Zemlet Er Rekkab North-1 (ZERN-1) and Rhourde Rhorfat-1 (RHF-1), located in the Berkine basin.
Sonatrach said a few months ago that it intended to continue its exploration activities with a target of 160 wells to be drilled by 2016. Sonatrach posted a turnover export level of $72 billion in 2011, compared to $56 billion in 2010.
