Snow and Mountain Tourism World Congress 11-12 April
The congress will consider the challenges and opportunities facing snow tourism, the new business models in the sector, innovation and the impact of climate change. There will be a particular focus on the use of ICT, diversification of tourism activities and services, and the new emerging mountain destinations.

As with all tourism markets the use of IT by tourists has revolutionised the way holiday desinations  are selected and  also offers promoters new marketing options as the sector is exposed to the global market place and as   destinations  also  reconsider summer season opportunities.

The new ski markets (Eastern European countries, the former Soviet republics and the countries of Asia) have undergone rapid, intense development in the last decade, whereas traditional European markets are showing signs of reaching the limits of  growth. These new markets offer modern facilities and technology for snow production, as well as the equipment necessary fo  all types of skiing: night-time skiing, freestyle skiing, speed riding, etc. In parallel to this, there has been a process  of creating smaller markets with ski slopes of a lesser scale in countries as wide-ranging as Cyprus, Iran, Israel and  Morocco which has ski resorts which include Oukaimeden and Jebel Mischliffen. There are investment opportunities for  equipping these ski resorts with the latest trechnology as sking and mountain trekking is popular with Moroccans and  international tourists alike.

Trekking in the Atlas Mountains is well established and popular. Mountain Travel Morocco (MTM) is a Moroccan owned and the only official specialist adventure travel company based in Imlil  in the High Atlas Mountains.

The Algerian Minister of Tourism and Handicraft, Smail Mimoune highlighted on Wednesday in the conference the Algerian  approach to develop and promote tourism and Mountain tourism. He highlighted the investment opportunities available in the  Algerian tourism sector, the support mechanisms and facilities granted by the government to investors in this sector and the significant potential for mountain tourism in Algeria.

The Hoggar Mountains and Tassili and Tamenrasset have great potential  and the mountainous Kabilye region in the north is very breautiful but beacuse of fears terrorism risks which still persist  the market is largely a national one with large numbers of Algerian expatriate tourists. This winter Algeria witnessed  exceptionally  heavy snow falls.
